Since 1980 Precision Technology Inc. has been manufacturing circuit board assemblies for major companies throughout Dallas/Fort Worth. Customers include Texas Instruments, Luminator Air-craft, NASA, Century Flights, Westinghouse, DRS, Photo-Etch, Toshiba and more.
Previously, PTI chose TMAC as a resource to develop and implement their quality management system. Ever since, PTI has continued to utilize TMAC services. Members of the management team participated in the Enterprise Excellence Breakfast Workshop Series sponsored by TMAC. TMAC continues to support the implementation of the quality management system through periodic coaching and support meetings.
In 2007, PTI ownership recognized a unique opportunity for growth – acquire a competitor. The result immediately doubled the size of their company! This opportunity came challenges – financing, management structure, facility/infrastructure, two different company cultures, two different quality management systems … quite a list.
To address financing issues, PTI restructured their ownership to include two new partners. To address the other issues, they once again called on TMAC.
Neither facility was large enough to accommodate the resulting organization, so PTI management identified a new facility in Plano. A TMAC layout specialist then led a project for the layout of the new facility and the coordination of the move.
This project was successfully completed in August, 2007, with a minimum of disruption to ongoing operations.
The merging companies were both ISO 9001 registered, but with different documented systems, different registrars, and different cultures. One of TMAC’s quality management specialists agreed to work with the new PTI management team to address both the culture issues and the integration of the two quality management systems. Over a period of several months, these issues were addressed, and registration of the new, integrated system was successful in February, 2008.
The immediate result of these projects was a successful new company in a 40,000 square foot, static-free, air-conditioned building, twice the size of the original, functioning in a new, state of the art facility with ample room for growth. The specific impact includes approximately $10.3M sales with $4.8M in retained sales and the opportunity of an estimated $3M in additional sales in the coming year. These sales numbers represent approximately 18 new jobs along with the retention of 60 others. In addition, there were internal cost savings of approximately $125K. Defects (.2%) and customer returns are (1.2%) both well under control.
Harry Sutaria, CEO, summed up the projects successes by saying “Our team at PTI is thankful to TMAC for their support in working hands on with us to succeed.”
