Westech Seal manufactures mechanical seals in Odessa,Texas. They experienced substantial growth over 14 years and wanted to implement new ideas to accommodate future expansion.
In particular, Westech Seal wanted to install a computerized production scheduling system, introduce new production processes, and incorporate lean manufacturing into all phases of their operations.
While desiring such improvements was one thing, finding help on these matters was entirely another. According to Mark Merritt, President, “Over time, I’ve tried to get help and found that it was too specialized, too expensive, or impractical. Many times, it was all three.” Fortunately, Mark remembered an earlier contact with the Texas Manufacturing Assistance Center (TMAC) and decided to give them a call.
TMAC manufacturing specialist Sean Fields met with Westech and outlined where TMAC could fulfill company needs. “Until I met with TMAC, no one would or could do any of the jobs in a way that was applicable to our situation,” recalls Mark. “TMAC was able to help us on the scheduling, production processes, and lean manufacturing in a cost effective manner.”
To implement the improvements, TMAC carefully defined company needs and specifically incorporated them into their solutions. During all of this, TMAC kept Westech informed when key milestones were reached and stayed flexible as needs changed.
Westech Seal now utilizes a TMAC-developed computerized scheduling system that has supported a 300% increase in production. TMAC also installed a rubber molding line and implemented lean manufacturing concepts. According to Sean Fields, “Finding companies as committed to excellence as Westech Seal gives us a great opportunity to show our capabilities. In situations like these, there are no limits.”
“TMAC has done an extremely effective job. I strongly recommend them to any company that is serious about growing and improving. Their staff is very committed, versatile, and professional. I am very satisfied with TMAC and will work with them in the future.”
