Texas A&M researcher, Dr. Oliver Murphy had a vision: take the innovations discovered in his chemical lab and apply them to the consumer market. He had already made advancements in electrochemical processes, and he suspected the ideas were economically viable. In 1987 he trusted his instinct and started Lynntech, Inc. which began developing products in a wide range of areas, including energy conversion, biotechnology, biomaterials, sensors, nanomaterials, and environmental remediation.
Lynntech cultivated a process to generate high concentrations of ozone from water. Ozone is a powerful oxidant that effectively destroys bacteria and viruses. Right away Dr. Murphy saw the benefits of a residue-free purifying agent. This innovation could treat water more effectively than chlorine and it is safe for use in both drinking water and septic water treatment. Further uses include cold sterilizing medical and dental instruments, and sanitizing fruits and vegetables. He contacted TMAC’s technology market assessment team to develop this opportunity.
TMAC representatives met with Dr. Murphy and his staff to fully understand the benefits of the technology and potential applications to the consumer. Then they connected these benefits to actual market options. After conducting their research, TMAC delivered a comprehensive report which outlined specific opportunities, suggested best industry practices, and identified potential strategic partners and distribution channels.

Lynntech is a thriving business that employs over 135 people, many in the engineering and scientific fields. Revenues are up and the future looks bright. Oliver Murphy had a vision and today that vision is an unqualified success for Brazos County and the state of Texas.
