LPD-101 Introduction to Lean Product Development

The Introduction to Lean Product Development workshop presents a set of leading-edge, practical tools for slashing waste and increasing speed and efficiency for any product development process. The “lean methods” described in this course enable dramatic reductions in time-to-market while freeing up valuable resources for additional development work.

Objectives: Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identifying non-value-added tasks and wasteful work habits on any development project.
  • Applying lean techniques that provide immediate savings of time and cost.
  • Using a step-by-step method for prioritizing improvement activities.
  • Improving the quality and efficiency of customer / team / management communication.
  • Maximizing utilization of scarce human and capital resources.
  • Supporting a culture of discipline, value-focus, and intolerance of waste.

LPD- 201 Rapid Project Execution

This workshop focuses on improving the day to day focus and execution of the project team and supporting departments conducting product development. It builds upon the foundational principles learned in Lean Product Development 101 by implementing them directly to a real world application.

With this hands-on workshop, project teams implement rapid project execution tools on an actual product development project at their company. The participants incorporate rapid project execution methods for meetings, project management and status reporting.

Objectives: Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Perform Exception-Driven Status Reporting
  • Conduct Stand-up Meetings and Created Visual Project Boards
  • Apply Time Slicing and “Project Time”
  • E-mail Rules, Lean Meetings, and Other Time-Savers

LPD 202 Value Engineering: Reducing Product Costs

The Value Engineering workshop focuses on clarifying and prioritizing customer requirements, establishing critical to quality, yield, and cost issues, and analyzing design alternatives that optimize meeting both the customer and business needs. It builds upon the foundational principles learned in Lean Product Development 101 by applying them directly to a real world application.
Objectives: Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Clarify and Prioritize Customer Requirements
  • Establish Critical to Quality and Yield Issues
  • Establish Critical to Cost and Cycle Time Issues
  • Develop and Analyze Design Alternatives to Optimize Product Profitability

LPD 203 Building a LPD Process

Description: This workshop focuses on improving the strategic system for product development. It builds upon the principles learned in Lean Product Development 101 by implementing them directly to a real world application.
In this hands-on workshop conducted with participants on a live project, companies begin to transform their product development method into a “continuous-flow” process. The participants document and analyze their current process and then develop a customized company specific future state that will enable rapid, high-value product development and then create a plan to achieve it.

Objectives: Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Develop a Deliverables Roadmap to keep constant focus on value creation.
  • Document a product development process and create a Current State Value Stream Map.
  • Analyze the current state and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Create an improved product development process and a Future State Value Stream Map.
  • Identify non-value-added tasks and waste on any development project.
  • Deploy the Lean Product Development Process.
